VIDEO: Tristar's solid anamorphic transfer for "Apt Pupil" really presents well the work of what I consider to be one of the strongest new cinematographers working today, Thomas Newton Siegel("The Usual Suspects", "Fallen"). There are a lot of shots where sunlight seeps into an otherwise dimly lit room and the disc captures these details with really nice clarity and definition. The image is clean and clear thoughout as well. Images are sharp and attain a nice, although not terribly thrilling amount of detail. Contrast is quite good and flesh tones are accurate and well-presented, staying natural even in dimly lit interiors. There are a few slight problems with aliasing, but nothing terribly distracting.

SOUND: What is basically a dialogue-driven mix is highlighted by John Ottman's haunting score, which sounds similar to the score that he contributed to director Bryan Singer's other film, "The Usual Suspects". The score sounds wonderfully clear and rich and flows throughout the sound stage nicely. There aren't really many instances where this will put a system to work. Dialogue sounds quite good throughout- clean, natural and never compressed.

MENUS: Non-anamated film-themed menus.

EXTRAS: The trailer and a fairly decent featurette that has interviews with cast and crew.

Final Thoughts: I didn't care for the film itself, although the technical aspects are quite good- Siegel's cinematography and Ottman's score are especially memorable in a movie that I found only okay. Tristar has done a solid job on this DVD- sound and video are quite good. Maybe worth a rental.
