This Week: Paramount's "Double Jeopardy" hits theaters this week, ending off the September frame. There certainly isn't a lot of "buzz" on this picture, and some early reviews have been strictly middle-of-the-road. Definitely nothing new for Tommy Lee Jones, who plays yet another cop tracking a fugitive, a role he perfected in "The Fugitive" and pulled off yet again in "US Marshals". Ashley Judd is an excellent actress and she will likely draw a fairly sizable crowd for this picture, but it's certainly on her shoulders to push this film, because I don't feel that the trailers are doing terribly well to attract an audience, who likely thinks this is yet another sequel to "The Fugitive." This picture will probably take first place this weekend, but with a relatively minor 14.8m. Don't look for it to keep first place for more than a weekend, as "Three Kings" is released next weekend.

Also This Weekend:
There's a lot of other pictures rolling out this weekend, and only one of that group looks to make any sort of mark at the box office. That picture is "American Beauty", which pulled in $861,531 at 16 theaters. The film goes much wider this week, as Dreamworks has abandoned plans to go for a slow release on this picture, instead going for around an additional few hundred screens this weekend and more in weeks to come. My prediction is for about 7.7m this weekend.

"Jakob The Liar" is the new Robin Williams film debuting in theaters this week, with a few problems to face: audiences will not likely be too eager to see a movie about this plot after the wildly successful "Life Is Beautiful", and they certainly will not be running to theaters with the kind of harsh reviews this picture is getting. Look for this picture to gross 6m this weekend.

Also this weekend is the little Lawrence Kasdan comedy "Mumford", which may be helped slightly by the fact that it sneak previewed last weekend, so look for a gross of about 6.5m for this picture this weekend. "Dog Park", a picture that's been delayed for quite a long time, will likely pull 3m this weekend.
