VIDEO: Another fine disc by Columbia/Tristar. The 1.85:1 image is anamorphic and for the most part, quite enjoyable. The outdoor scenes and the landscapes that surround the characters are beautiful, and the attention to detail in the image is frequently great- there are times when it seems as if every blade of grass in the fields can be seen on their own. It's not a colorful film; the film is made up of browns, greens, greys and other such colors, but everything looks accurate to the film's intended color palette. In terms of sharpness and clairty, the outdoor scenes look wonderful- clear and very sharp throughout. The indoor scenes look clear and generally good, but sometimes just the slightest bit soft. Shadow detail is fine and so are flesh tones. In terms of the print, I did notice some slight scratches, but nothing that will be terribly distracting. There's no aliasing or pixelization, but I did notice a tiny bit of grain here and there.

SOUND: The sound mix is mainly dialogue and it's a dialogue based film. There are occasional sounds detailing the outdoor environment such as birds chirping, but for the most part, the film is all dialogue and occasional touches of music from Bill Whelhan's score. Dialogue is natural and clear throughout. Gets the job done, but not an enveloping sound mix, and on a film like this, it's the clarity of the dialogue that matters.

MENUS: Basic film-themed menus.

EXTRAS: Trailers For: "Dancing At Lughnasa", "The Governess" and "Little Women", along with cast notes.

Final Thoughts: A jaw-droppingly slow film with absolutely no dramatic tension or terribly interesting characters. This may have made an award-winning stage play, but the film goes nowhere quickly(literally- it only clocks in at 95 minutes). Tristar has done a nice job on the disc though, so if you did enjoy this film, it's worth taking a look at on DVD, but personally, I just didn't care for the film.
