DVD Only Review: Dangerous Minds

The DVD:

VIDEO: And Disney fails again with one of their older titles. They put forth a good, if not great effort on a lot of their newer titles such as "She's All That" and "A Civil Action", but when it comes to their catalog product, I haven't seen one release that I've really been that happy with and "Dangerous Minds" continues that unfortunate tradition. This is a soft looking, occasionally grainy-looking transfer that has it's moments during some of the daylight scenes when the characters are out of the classroom, but most of the interior shots lack detail and look soft occasionally to the point of being slightly hazy in nature. The basic colors of the school building look eve a little more pale on this transfer and like the image itself, they lack definition. There's some scratches and blemishes on the print as well. Nothing terribly great about this effort from Disney.

SOUND: Strong and well recorded rap score is the highlight here, providing some serious bass to rumble the speakers. Other than that, there's not too much going on in "Dangerous Minds" besides the dialogue, which sounds suprisingly, not that clear on this disc and a few times, I had to use the subtitle button.

MENUS: Seriously basic Disney menus.

EXTRAS: No trailer, but Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" music video.

Overall Grade:73%/C
Final Thoughts: I'll give Disney credit- some of their releases of newer films on disc are pretty solid, but their catalog stuff is pretty terrible and this is no exception. Not recommended.
