The Film:
Keanu Reeves stars in this morality tale/legal thriller as Kevin Lomax, a wildly successful Florida lawyer who's won case after case after case. One day, after, of course, winning another case, he's offered a position at a high powered New York law firm, headed by John Milton(Al Pacino), who seems a bit suspicious. Of course, what's offered is "paradise", for Kevin, and the film looks at his life from simplicity in Florida to his downfall in the big city of New York.

John Milton is of course, the Devil. It's been revealed all over the place, in the trailers, etc, and if you're reading this DVD review, it's more than likely you've already seen the film and would like to know if the DVD is worth owning. That said, Pacino does an absolutely fabulous job, with an insane little laugh, a great smirk and a few over the top scenes where he gets the chance to take over a few scenes in an absolutely over the top performance.
Also great is a supporting performance by Charleze Theron. Reeves is quite good and that's saying a lot, because Pacino has a very big performance that could overshadow the other actors in the film.

It's a smart film with great dialogue and wonderful performances. Recommended.

The Disc: Picture:Impressive, wonderful looking 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer. Wonderfully sharp, the picture is free of compression artifacts or shimmering. Detail and depth are quite good. Overall a very excellent presentation. The statue seems to be changed at the end, when it begins to seriously move around. You can see bits and pieces, but the majority of it, if memory of my original viewing is right, is digitally blocked out.

Sound: Excellent. Warner has produced a crisp, impactful and detailed sound mix for the film that accurately captures the wonderous details and sound effects that make the film scary and interesting. Very well done. Dialogue is also well recorded.

Extras: A very annoying commentary by director Taylor Hackford, who is the equivalent of someone sitting next to you explaining who everyone is and what everyone is doing. He doesn't talk much about what went into making the film, just what is happening on screen, which I found annoying.
30 Minutes Of Deleted Scenes, with commentary by Hackford. Unfortunately, you can still not hear the dialogue, just Hackford.
