In Short: A quick look at the third film in a series that should have ended 2 movies ago.
The Movie:
Other Reviews:Poison Ivy 2,Poison Ivy
The thin plot of this second sequel to the Drew Barrymore original stars Jamie Pressley (Ringmaster, Can't Hardly Wait) as Violet, younger sister of Ivy, who comes back to take revenge on the Greer family. Much bad dialogue, acting and direction ensues. Went direct to video in 1997, I'm slightly suprised it got that far.
The DVD
VIDEO: This is a fairly good anamorphic transfer in the film's original 1.85:1 aspect ratio. Images occasionally seem to be on the softer side, lacking a little bit in detail. Colors are strong, looking vibrant and nicely saturated throughout. The outdoor scenes fare better, looking sharper and richer. There are only a few instances where a little bit of grain was apparent, and a couple of instances of slight shimmering. All in all a good quality image from New Line. The disc includes the Unrated and R rated versions in both full-frame and letterbox.
SOUND: This is really quite basic in terms of audio, with minimal presence from the score, which sounds a little thin. The dialogue sounds alright, a little harsh at times.
MENUS: Very basic, no music or animation.
EXTRAS:: The unrated version contains 2 more minutes. Unfortunately, the disc does not point out where those 2 minutes are, so I couldn't tell exactly what they contain compared to the R-rated version. There are cast/crew bios, but no theatrical trailer.
Final Thoughts: Yikes. Although Pressley is good in her role(and she certainly looks good), the rest of the movie is not even one of those "good bad movies", where you can laugh a few times, at least.
