The Movie: The first DTS Music CD I've had the pleasure to review, "Police: Every Breath You Take - The Classics" is a wonderfully enjoyable listening experience, making the most of the revolution of multichannel music. A collection of some of the band's biggest hits, the CD includes such songs as "Roxanne", "Message In A Bottle", "Don't Stand So Close To Me", "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", "Every Breath You Take" and "Wrapped Around Your Finger". I haven't really been a major fan of Sting's solo material, since it seems to have moved away from the sort of reggae feel that many of the Police hits had, at least in the background of many of their tunes(I'm a big reggae/ska fan). I haven't heard many of these songs in quite some time, and hearing tracks such as "Every Little Thing She Does In Magic" in DTS is an incredible treat. The audio on the CD is marvelous. Music is placed around the viewer in a seamless soundstage that provides a really exciting experience. Some of the songs are especially great, such as the way that the piano and other instruments are placed around the viewer in "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", or the classic guitar part that opens "Every Breath You Take", which fills the room beautifully. The general quality of the audio is exceptional, a rich, pure sound that is completely clear and clean. The sound also has a pleasing amount of punch to it as well, with a fine helping of bass. Surrounds are used to wonderful effect to wrap the music around the viewer - that guitar part that opens "Every Breath You Take" is a fine example of how all speakers work together to smoothly create a feeling that the music is in the room, and almost the room itself, with the audio having a very pleasing, expansive feel. Although there are a few sorta so-so songs on this disc, I still enjoyed how creatively songs were presented by the DTS audio. I've looked at a couple of additional DTS Music CDs and have been really impressed with what I think is the next evolution in how we listen to music. Look for more DTS CD Reviews soon, with titles such as the "Titanic" soundtrack, among others. ![]() |
