The Movie:

After the review of the 2000 edition of the SI Swimsuit edition DVD became so popular, I thought I'd review the 1999 edition. Of course, again, those who are probably interested in this DVD are already on their way to the store for it and aren't looking for a review, but I thought I'd provide one anyways.

The biggest difference between the 2000 and the new editions is obviously the price. Where $19.99 was a bit much for the 46 minute 2000 ediiton, Image Entertainment has reduced the price on these new editions (1995-1999) to a much more pleasing $14.99(and cheaper at most stores) per disc, with the whole collection of latest editions available at some stores for as low as $27.99.

As for the stars of the show, the 1999 edition boasts names that many will be familiar with - the 3 most obvious being Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Heidi Klum and Laetitia Casta. If you're a fan of these three, the documentary is certainly worth checking out. Besides those, there are quite a few other models featured, such as Niki Taylor.

Also nice is not having a "host" like the 2000 edition did. Rather than going back to someplace else to hear jokes, the whole time is spent behind-the-scenes at the photo shoots. Highly recommended is the chapter with Romijin-Stamos, whose parody of "model behavior" is hilarious. 48 minutes.

The DVD

VIDEO: Beautiful full-frame presentation; only a sight bit of grain once or twice, but otherwise, images are sharp, bright and full of warm, rich colors. I didn't notice any problems with pixelation or shimmering. The 2000 edition looked solid, and this one does too. A good presentation from Image Entertainment that's crisp and clear enough to make many wish they were at these exotic locations.

SOUND: The stereo sound really isn't showy in any way; the music provides pretty much the only energetic sound offering in the program. Otherwise, it's just dialogue from the models, which sounds clear and clean.

MENUS:: The only menu is a chapter selection.

EXTRAS:: None.

Final Thoughts: It's a fun program, and if you like the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues or any of the featured models (and who doesn't?), it's recommended. Available at some stores for as low as $10.49.
