The Movie:

This will probably be one of the shortest reviews that I've ever done. Multi-platinum pop act Destiny's Child is the focus of this release from Sony Music. Most of the company's DVD releases are either concert presentations or documentaries about the group/singer ("Mandy Moore: Real Story", for example), but "Platinum's On The Wall" is a bit different. It's simply a video compilation, and a pretty short one, at that.

The videos included are No, No, No (Part One); No, No, No(Part Two); Bills, Bills, Bills; Bug a Boo; Say My Name; Jumpin', Jumpin'. The video for "Independent Women" from "Charlie's Angels" is strangely not included, and that's unfortunate. It would have been nice to have other features on the disc, such as the EPK (Electronic Press Kit) or other such documentary features. All we get besides the videos is a real short list of facts about the group.

The DVD

VIDEO: The videos are generally presented well, although there are some flaws that I noticed throughout. Sharpness seemed excellent, as the videos seemed well-defined and remarkably crisp - certainly sharper than broadcast quality. Yet, there was some noticable instances of shimmering that were visible throughout, a problem that I also viewed in Sony's Mandy Moore DVD on the videos that were included on that release. Colors were very pleasing as well, appearing well-saturated and clean. Not impressive quality, but certainly more than watchable.

SOUND: All of the videos are presented in Dolby Digital 5.1. The audio mixes for the songs are enjoyable, but nothing too out of the ordinary, as the 5.1 presentation simply opens up the music out into the listening room. Some of the songs simply seem to have the same audio coming from all speakers, although a couple ("Jumpin, Jumpin", for example) get more creative than that.

Audio quality was very good, although not outstanding or remarkable. The songs had a nice little undercurrent of bass to the beats and the vocals of the singers came through with fine clarity. A fine presentation.

MENUS:: Menus have slight animation as the title scrolls by in the background.

EXTRAS: Just the slight biographies.

Final Thoughts: At $9.95 I'd probably recommend it easily, but the actual retail price is $19.95 and for what you get, this release is really for fans only.
