The Movie:
This DVD single provides the video for the newest Destiny's Child single "Survivor" as well as a live performance of their hit "Independent Women Part 1".
The DVD
VIDEO: The "Survivor" video is presented full-frame and looked excellent - sharpness and detail were terrific, and although there were some instances of slight shimmer the picture looked great, overall. Colors also appeared sleek and rich. The "Independent Women" presentation, on the other hand, looked a little less impressive. Shown in 1.85:1 widescreen, the picture appeared somewhat soft and undefined, and there were a few instances of pixelation noticeable during the song.
SOUND: I was a little dissapointed after the fine Dolby Digital 5.1 remixes of the group's other singles in their "Platinum's On The Wall" DVD release that these two songs are only presented in PCM Stereo (there's a Dolby Digital logo on the bottom of the back of the box, but there's no DD here). Still, both songs do provide excellent audio quality - the music comes through with excellent clarity and the vocals of the singers also sound crisp and natural. I generally felt the same about the audio quality of the the live performance video, but the audio for "Survivor" came through with an additional level of crispness and clarity that the video for the live performance didn't seem to deliver.
MENUS:: The main menu has a slight animated background and the two videos as the only choices. "Survivor" plays in the background.
EXTRAS: None.
Final Thoughts: I guess I'm still not really sold on the idea of DVD singles. I believe they can be a bit more than they are for $10.00; the live performance video is a step in the right direction, but unless you're a big fan of the group, I don't know how much replay value two videos will have. I would have liked "Survivor" in 5.1, as well.
