The Movie:
I'd never heard of Underworld before, but there seemed to be a bit of a buzz around their new DVD release, so I decided to check it out. I like techno/electronic music myself, and found the concert footage that's contained in this DVD to be a pretty remarkable performance (and I did recognize one of the songs from the "Trainspotting" soundtrack) in front of what looked to be a pretty massive audience.
Songs:
1. Juanit/Kiteless
2. Cups
3. Push Upstairs
4. Pearls Girl
5. Jumbo
6. Shudder/King Of Snake
7. Born Slippy Nuxx
8. Rez/Cowgirl
9. Kittens (Exclusive to DVD)
10. Rowla (Exclusive to DVD)
11. Moaner (Excusive to DVD)
The DVD
VIDEO: The video quality for the concert varied a bit at times, looking occasionally soft and showing a bit of pixelation. Otherwise, much of the full-frame image looked pretty solid. Sharpness is passable, and detail is fair as well. A few shots of the crowd now and then look a bit murky, as well. Strangely, some shots look great with good sharpness and all-around clarity. Simply, this certainly isn't bad looking, but it just varies a bit at times. Colors look great - and the stage is sometimes washed in different colored lights that look great here. The presentation is full-frame.
SOUND: Where the video quality was merely ok, the sound quality is fantastic. The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio really gets the beats of the music out into the room with good, clean power. Surrounds are used for both the music and some crowd noise. Surround use is never awkward, and all speakers work together to create a really enveloping music experience.
MENUS::The main menus are pretty basic with some subtle animation, but do provide various sounds(music, etc) in Dolby Digital 5.1 in the background.
EXTRAS:: There are some very cool extra features included on this DVD. Besides some DVD-Rom features, there is the ability to "program your own gig" - in other words, play the songs in the order you want; multiple angles - one for the concert footage, the other for video with arty images with the music playing. The DVD-Rom features took a bit of time to load and include the ability to play with a small program that mixes audio together for a song, as well as some additional web-links and other materials.
Final Thoughts: I liked the energetic performance of the group, and thought the music was really good. Although the video quality is a bit shaky at times, the sound quality really is fantastic. Extra features provide some additional entertainment, as well. Another great effort from BMG, who has been providing some wonderful music releases lately. The only problem is their discs seem a little bit harder to find at times, but if you like this kind of music "Everything Everything" is definitely worth looking for.
