The Movie:

Supermodel jokes are like, so ten years ago, but that doesn't stop "Death to the Supermodels" from trying to bring back this long-lost subgenre of comedy. The flick stars Jamie Pressly (finally getting consistent work in "My Name Is Earl") as a girl who's just not quite model material, landing her a job at a fashion magazine.

She's sent to cover a fashion shoot that features the world's five most elite supermodels, including: Eva (Brooke Burns), a European model who has never shaved her armpits and Darbie (Kimberly Davies), a model famous for being able to stand still for hours on end. Soon enough, the models start croaking, and it becomes apparent that someone wants them all taken out before the credits roll. One of the models farts herself to death. No, I'm not kidding. That's about the level of humor you'll find in this picture.

The movie got only a chuckle or two out of me early on, then I found myself wishing harder and harder for the credits to arrive. The movie trots out every single cliche (two gay photographers - in this case, one is mute) and bathroom joke (the European one doesn't bathe, see also the previously mentioned farting incident) available, all of which are about as stale as it gets. The fact that the movie looks like it was done on the dirt cheap doesn't help matters, either.

The acting is about as passable as can be, given the terrible screenplay (the real mystery is how any of these actors were convinced to star in this feature.) Burns (I still miss "Dog Eat Dog", which was like a cheap, indoor "Fear Factor") gives a pretty decent effort in a ridiculous role, as does Pressly. However, aside from a minor laugh or two early on, no one could make much out of this largely dated and lackluster material.

The DVD

VIDEO: "Death to the Supermodels" is presented by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen. The picture quality is about as good as can be expected, given what appears to be a low budget. The picture appears inconsistently crisp, with some scenes looking a bit sharper than others. A main issue is that some stretches of the movie look a tad dark.

The elements appeared to be in varying shape, with some instances of grain and a few isolated scenes that showed some wear in the form of specks and marks. Some minor pixelation and edge enhancement appeared, although neither of those issues were terribly noticable. Colors looked a tad flat, but that may be how the film has always looked.

SOUND: The Dolby Digital 5.1 presentation is understandably basic, focusing entirely on the dialogue.

EXTRAS: Deleted scenes and trailers.

Final Thoughts: "Death to the Supermodels" offers a tired concept and, despite some minor chuckles early on, the movie quickly settles into flat, bland crude humor. The DVD offers average audio/video quality and nothing much in the way of supplements. Skip it.
