A Guide To Current Film

Most people found this adaptation of the old television show horrifyingly bad. And true, there are a lot of things about it that are incredibly stupid. But, to be honest, I sort of liked parts of it, it was fairly energetic, and I was entertained for a few hours.
The story is pretty obvious; the Robinson family is about to blast off to save the world(it's the future and we're running out of resources). There's a stowaway on board, Dr. Smith(Gary Oldman), who messes things up and before you know it, the Robinsons use the ships hyperdrive to blast into another dimension. And wouldn't you know it, they're lost. The rest of the film follows the Robinsons across space as they try to find their way home. Where it's faulty most is the script, written by Akiva Goldsman(who gave us the truely awful "Batman and Robin." I also liked how the filmmakers seemed willing to admit in the commentary that maybe not everything had gone how they would have liked in the final project.
As for picture and audio, "Lost In Space" is first-rate, with some great, strong audio and the picture is very good, with rich, deep colors and no visible artifacts.
But you should definitely think about giving the film a second try, only on DVD. New Line has put together an outstanding package for "Lost In Space", another in their wonderful "Platinum Editions."
